These Effects models have been designed for Marathon 1.0. If you
attempt to use these models with 1.1 the colors will look terrible for a
couple of the weapons. I may or may not re-do the colors for 1.1
depending of whether or not people E-mail me asking me to do so. I spent
a good amount of time trying to make all of the weapons seem new and
exciting again, so I hope my models are appreciated. Please feel free to
distribute these models as you see fit. To use them they must be renamed
Physics Model and placed in the same folder as the commercial version of
Marathon. Their descriptions are as follows:

#1 Special Effects. This model was made to make all the weapons look like
they are more powerful without actually changing them in any way. This
way you can play net games with others who are not using a physics model
without falling out of sync, or watch saved films made without a physics
model and still get a bigger bang for your buck. These are the changes:

Magnum: Now fires tracer shots (bullets now have Major Compiler Bolt
contrails). None too impressive if you only have one gun, but if
you've gone the rout of the Two-Fisted Fury it is very, very nice.

Fusion Pistol: This looks really good. I changed the color and added
small contrail (copied Major Comp. Bolt to Unused 3 and used
that with a different color ID). It looks like a small blue ball with
a white-hot center. It's hard to describe, but it looks great. The
charged blast has a similar color, without that white-hot look.

MA-75: This is hands-down the best change. Now fires Gyro-Jet rounds
(rifle bullets now use grenade contrails). It's really hard to see
what you're doing when you're firing this weapon because of all the
smoke, but being on the receiving end is INTIMIDATING AS ALL HELL.
No words will do this weapon proper justice. If you can't netplay
you can still get a good idea what it's like being on the receiving
end by watching the net-demo of Waldo World Arena. Or better yet,
perhaps you've down-loaded the SF MacWorld films (available through
ftp.amug.org last time I checked)? If so, watch 5-D space from
RIVETHEAD's point of view (he fires in nice short controlled bursts
when he has this weapon). Most amusing.

Rocket Launcher: Rockets now have flame contrails (ah-la Flame
Thrower). I'm not sure I like this better then the normal rocket
contrail, but it's a nice change of pace.

Flame Thrower: Different color ID. Now looks hotter, but not really
anything to write home about. Like the Rocket Launcher, it's just
   something different.

Bobs: All Bobs are now green. Can you say Paranoia?

#2 Extra Effects. I made this one for people that might want a more
playable and interesting version of Special Effects. It's just the same,
except for the following changes (because these changes actually change
the behavior of some weapons and Bobs, this model is not fit for
watching films created without this model, or net games where all
participants are not using this model):

MA-75: The origin point for the bullets has been lowered a little,
allowing you to see over the top of the smoke. I didn't want to lower
it too much for fear of too many bullets hitting the ground, so smoke
still fills the bottom half of the screen, but it's a far cry from the
smoke machine it was before. Still my weapon of choice.

Flame Thrower: Now fires more "billowy" flame (changed the Theta Error
   to 5). Looks good.

Alien Weapon: Now fires the Hunter's weapon. For me, this weapon is a
fantasy come true. Since the Alien Spy (below) is always carrying one
of these around Alien Weapons have become far more common. Because of
this I cut the clip size in half. Only seemed fair.

Bobs: Bobs come in four flavors, right? First kind is still your plain
old Stupid Bob. Second kind is now an Alien Spy. Alien Spys look just
like Bobs and are smuggling in Alien Weapons to their Pfhor cohorts.
Kill them and take the Weapon for yourself! You can tell them apart
from Stupid Bobs because if shot them they make a metallic TINK! They
are also fire-proof. The third kind of Bob is the Angry Bob. Angry
Bobs will be a nice treat for those of you who installed the
Attack Bob Patch as they seem to have found an Alien Weapon lying
around, and have taken their defense into their own hands. Anything
that attacks them (and doesn't kill them), including you, will be
shot. If you haven't applied the Attack Bob Patch your Angry Bobs
won't attack. I think the A.B. Patch is still available through
ftp.amug.org. Did I mention that Angry Bobs are also Berserker? Fourth
kind of Bob is the Damaged Defense Drone. DDDs have gotten their wires
crossed a little, and no longer remember exactly who the enemy is,
although they're pretty sure the guys with three eyes are "bad." DDDs
always attack Pfhor and anyone who shoots at them. They are also
Berserker. They are armed with Machine Guns and a new weapon that I
made up that shoots pulsating balls of blue flame that home in on
their target. Pleasing to the eye.

Wow, did you actually take the time to read all that? That's all she
wrote. Enjoy.
